Four supermoon events in a row make this year's supermoon cycle particularly interesting
Astronomers are cheering! Two supermoons will be visible this August, according to NASA experts, with the "Super Sturgeon Moon" appearing on August 1 and the sneaky blue moon appearing later in the month.

Super sturgeon month
The main Sturgeon Moon is expected to occur on Tuesday, August 1st, peaking at 1:33 PM EDT. Experts predict that the moon should be close enough to Earth on August 1 to be referred to as the "Super Sturgeon Moon".
Native American clans, especially those in the Incomparable Lakes region of North America, seeing that the sturgeon was most often found during this month, gave it the name "Sturgeon Moon".
Sturgeons are dinosaur-looking fish that have been around for over 130 million years. This fish evolved into a wide variety of animal categories from one side of the planet to the other, some of which traced their home to the Incomparable Lakes.
Full moons throughout the year are known by different names in different societies and social orders. For example, the August full moon is otherwise called the "Grain Moon" among the Algonquins because grains were so common at that time.
The Full Moon in August may also be referred to as the Green Corn Moon, the Grain Moon, or the Natural Product Moon. These different names regularly refer to different varieties of food and produce that are fully grown and ready to be harvested during that season.
What is a blue moon?
The term "blue moon" really refers to how this usually happens as opposed to the shadow of the moon. When there are two full moons in a scheduled month, the second is known as a "blue moon".
